09 Collective Exhibitors - Carmen Kirstein Luxury Loungewear

We know that being in business can sometimes seem like you are dealing with dozens of faceless, BIG companies, but the 09 Collective is different - our exhibitors are just like you - they know that the landscape of business ownership is tough, they know that you have to choose incredible products a=that your customers will love & that will sell well, we asked our exhibitors some questions about their businesses - here is the lowdown!

Meet our Christchurch event exhibitors- Carmen from Carmen Kirstein Luxury Loungewear 

What does your job entail? 

I do everything,  designing and making the products, ordering materials and picking the new prints, business admin, trade shows and doing road trips to see our wholesalers, organising the photoshoots and all jobs inbetween. Only thing I don't do is make the bulk orders (gets sent to a machinist) and the end of year tax which is done by the accountant. 

What activities set you up best for creative inspiration for your business? 

Going out and looking at new things. 

Best piece of advice you’ve been given in business?

Never give up. and look for a gap in the market. Which is quite hard to do when you are coming into business for the first time. 

What is a great lesson from businesses that stock your brand? 

Keep best sellers as they are the hook for new people to try your product. then they will come back and by more (in other colours in my case)

How do you switch off from work?  Can you?

I work on other activities to switch off.  

How do you plan the year ahead for your business?

 I'm not very good in this department yet. I plan what I'm making a year in advance, but everything else I'm just dealing with it when it comes along. Not good I know!

What has been hardest about the last 3 years in business? 

With times being unpredictable and now a recession, getting into new stores is more of a struggle than if times are good. 

What have you been enjoying most about the last 3 years in business? 

A lot of people have been supporting NZ made businesses 

Hardest business lesson you’ve learnt

Make sure previous orders are paid before delivering new stock to a store. 

What is something you love things about being in The 09 Collective (or the idea of for newbies!?)

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly
