09 Collective Exhibitors - Papier HQ

We know that being in business can sometimes seem like you are dealing with dozens of faceless, BIG companies, but the 09 Collective is different - our exhibitors are just like you - they know that the landscape of business ownership is tough, they know that you have to choose incredible products a=that your customers will love & that will sell well, we asked our exhibitors some questions about their businesses - here is the lowdown!

If you haven't registered for our latest event (Christchurch June 11th & 12th ) you can do that here...

Meet our Christchurch event exhibitors - here is a bit more about Gabrielle from Papier HQ

What does your job entail?

No day is the same but I am the designer, creative director and owner of Papier. My job entails designing, marketing, managing staff, strategising, social media.. the list goes on!

What activities set you up best for creative inspiration for your business?

I think travel is super important for design inspiration. It's important for me to get outside and explore and see new things. Travel keeps me on top of my game and on top of trends in other parts of the world.

Best piece of advice you’ve been given in business ?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help from people that have walked in your shoes previously. Most people will be happy to help if you reach out and ask. I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by some amazing mentors during my journey. Take calculated risks and develop a product you are truly passionate about. If you create something that is unique and important to you, it will shine through in everything you do.

How do you switch off from work?  Can you?

Absolutely not haha

How do you plan the year ahead for your business?

Every year I like to sit down and come up with a detailed 12 month marketing and product plan. It helps me be accountable and proactive to meet deadlines and important dates.

What has been hardest about the last 3 years in business ?

Covid level 4 was probably the most stressful time for us. It was a huge reality check about how fragile life can be and even though sales were down (almost non existent) it gave us time to re-look at what we were putting out to our customers in regards to marketing and product ranges. It really paid off when level 3 came around and people were wanting to invest in pieces for their homes. We feel like so many good things came from it like our stationery range!

What have you been enjoying most about the last 3 years in business?

I really love our new pivot in marketing. I think we are getting better at educating our customers and telling our brand story to our customers. We have really figured out who we are as a brand and what our style is.

Hardest business lesson you’ve learnt -

We invested a lot in a social media crowd that promised to return on ad spend. We ended up spending more than we made with ads targeted to people that weren't our customers. It was a hard lesson for us.

What is something you love things about being in The 09 Collective (or the idea of for newbies!?)

I love that Rachel picks all very different, one of a kind brands and that she makes it such a welcoming space for customers to enjoy. It really is above and beyond what other gift fairs provide.

If you could choose 3 products from another 09 Collective Brand - what would they be?

Bored George sunglasses, Boston and Forest balloons for my daughters bedroom and Rachel's beautiful candles.
